CROSS COUNTRY
Cross Country is the winter Little Athletics program that runs from early May to early August. Registration for the Track and Field season automatically covers any athletes that wish to compete in our Cross Country season.
PRLAC is part of the Cross Country Division One Region. Instead of running at Preston Reservoir every week, the Cross Country season is conducted at different venues each week. This also insures that athletes will have more competition over the winter instead of running on their own. The centres that make up Division One include Essendon, Keilor, Sunbury, Coburg, Hume, Lancefield/Romsey and Craigieburn.
There isn’t a requirement to attend every week if you do not wish to do so, all athletes are required to pay a weekly competition fee of $2, which helps pay for the trophies given to athletes at the end of the season.
Volunteer parents are needed each week to assist with the running of the Cross Country event.
Cross Country involves athletes running one event with approximate distances listed below:
U6- 500m
U7 & U8- 1km
U9 & U10- 1.5km
U11 & U12- 2km
U13 – U16- 3km
Age groups are the same as the Track and Field season.
During the season, LAVIC also hosts Cross Country regional and state events as well as Open Days. Information on these will be published when they come to hand.
Cross Country events are not cancelled due to wet or cold weather so please ensure that athletes are dressed appropriately. Athletes are required to wear PRLAC uniform including the Commonwealth Bank name tag. Long black pants/tights and black white/red tops are allowed underneath the PRLAC uniform if athletes wish to wear those.
Cross Country dates will be confirmed however they usually start at 9:00am on a Saturday morning.
