CENTRE TRAINING

PRLAC centre training is held on Wednesday evenings meeting at the track from 6-7pm

At Preston Reservoir Little Athletics Centre, we want every athlete to develop their skills, build confidence and enjoy their athletics journey – whether they are taking their first steps into Little Athletics or working towards their next personal best.

For the 2026/27 season, PRLAC is introducing a structured coaching program designed to provide age-appropriate, purposeful and enjoyable training across the full range of Little Athletics events. Training is not compulsory although we do encourage attendance as it develops and builds fundamental movement skills in running, jumping and throwing

WEEKLY WEDNESDAY TRAINING

Our main training session will be held every Wednesday from 5:30–6:30pm, with athletes training in age-appropriate groups. This helps to ensure that athletes are provided with great skills based training opportunities reflective of their stage of development and age group.

Each session will have a clear focus allowing our coaches to spend quality time with athletes developing skills and techniques. Our training program is also aligned with the competition calendar.Training will cover:

  • Sprints and acceleration
  • Relays and baton changeovers
  • Hurdles
  • Long, high and triple jump
  • Shot put, discus and javelin
  • Event-specific technique and competition preparation

In the event that training is cancelled due to inclement weather, we will endeavour to make a decision and communicate this by 3pm allowing parents/guardians to know when you pick your children up from school.

SATURDAY SKILLS SESSIONS

On Saturday mornings when athletes are not competing in their allocated events, we will also be exploring Saturday Skills session opportunities to enable athletes to work on and practice individual events. This will allow additional coaching for athletes.

SKILLS WORKSHOPS

We are also exploring opportunities to engage with expert coaches and senior athletes to deliver skills workshops throughout the season in addition to our regular Wednesday night training sessions. Details of this will be communicated on Stack Team App and social media pages.

Whether your child is new to Little Athletics, discovering a new event or aiming for Regional and State competition, PRLAC’s coaching program provides a supportive environment where athletes can learn, improve and have fun.

All training is offered, noting the following conditions:

Parents must remain at training sessions with their children at all times.

Events on offer may be subject to change and coach availability

Training is offered for all athletes however some workshop sessions are for specific age groups as specified when published.
